Editor's Note January 2008 The best thing about the new year is just that—it’s new. Its very newness prompts fresh beginnings and new ideas, giving many a chance to start over. It’s also a time to pay tribute to and learn from the past. This issue’s cover feature, “Let it shine!” takes a hard look at the history and revival of Georgia’s Native people, the obstacles they continue to overcome and the “thinly spun gold” of the heritage they’re passing to future generations. Now, it’s cool to “be Indian.” Read Jane Garvey’s story. Fresh ideas can come at any time, however. Since the wheel, innovators and creative thinkers have sought ways to make life better and easier. Discover some of the great ideas that Georgia inventors have patented—and how to take your own creations to market. See “Ideas to reality.” On another creative note, don’t miss the unusual yarn art of Annie Greene of LaGrange. Who would’ve ever thought of using the medium of yarn this way? Annie did; see her story. Finally, on your travels through Georgia, there are many great “down-home” places to eat. See part two of our ongoing series—“Worth the drive: Georgia goes uptown with down-home cooking.” Ann Orowski
