Have an old-fashioned good time at the 57th annual Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee.COMPILED BY ASHLEY SPILLERS WITH JENNIFER HEWETT

An old-fashioned good time!

The 57th annual Georgia Mountain Fair at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee features 12 days of family fun, July 18-29. Catch a glimpse into North Georgia’s history and culture, as well as enjoy musical entertainment and a children’s carnival.

Many well-known country acts will take the stage, including Pam Tillis, Sammy Kershaw, John Anderson and banjo musician Mike Snider, as well as gospel groups The McKameys and the Inspirations. Fair-goers can also see the 2007 Miss Georgia Mountain Fair Pageant and the annual clogger’s convention.

Learn about blacksmithing, soap-making, moon-shining and hominy-making through demonstrations in the Pioneer Village. The annual parade will include antique cars, horses and buggies, colorful floats and local marching bands. And visitors can sample from among the many foods available, including sweet funnel cakes and cotton candy and festival favorites like hamburgers and barbecue.

The exhibit hall showcases the rich history of the 56 previous fairs, including memorabilia from past events.

The hall also features a large selection of antique farm equipment and explanations of how it was used.
