Mailbox January 2008 'Georgia products' updates
I saw the GEORGIA Magazine article yesterday that featured Georgia products -- what a great piece! [See "A specialty world: Georgia's unique products," November 2007, page 16.] I just wanted to say thank you so much for featuring five of our vendors from the Washington Farmers Market! What spectacular coverage -- two of our vendors have already been receiving phone calls and orders. Thanks for your efforts in promoting locally grown goodness! -- Katherine Stolz Barber, founder, Washington Farmers Market, Washington
I am writing this letter in concern over a statement made in the November issue of GEORGIA Magazine. The article made reference to Sparkman's Cream Valley, located in Moultrie, having stopped using stimulants before its opening in 2006. For the record, we at Sparkman's Dairy have never used Rbst or Rbgh stimulants since its founder Ross Sparkman began operation in 1967.
Because of concerns over hormones used in the production of milk in our nation's milk supplies, Sparkman's Cream Valley has made an extensive marketing effort to assure our customers that our milk does not and has not ever contained these hormones. We are very pleased to claim that we have chosen not to expose our animals to this technology. It does, however, put our dairy at a competitive disadvantage. With an industry that depends on technology, it is much more difficult to boost the bottom-line profits necessary to survive in the dairy business. -- Ricky Sparkman, Moultrie Editor's note: Ricky, thanks for setting us straight. And, readers, please note that there are a few other corrections on the story, all of which have been corrected on our Web site: The contact information listed for Rrumba Ware and jewelry by Vanessa Renee should have read (404) 944-3726 and www.rrumbaware.com. The Web site listing for Lydia Olsen's Bon Bons of Alpharetta is www.bonbonsconfections.com. We apologize for these errors and inadvertent omissions.
Going online Can you please tell me where to find the access code of the month? I wanted to read GEORGIA Magazine online, but it asked for this code. I put in everything on my mailing label, but all were invalid. Thank you for your help. -- Madeline Lewis, via e-mail
Editor's note: Madeline, thanks for your interest in GEORGIA Magazine and our Web site, www.georgiamagazine.org! The online access code of the month is usually printed on the table of contents, page 4, and also at the top of page 6 (highlighted in yellow). The code for January is "invent".
Big Green thanks
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our GEORGIA Magazine tent at the Big Green Egg's EGGtoberfest celebration in Tucker in October to sample grilled chicken and pick up a magazine.
Mike Holst of Norcross won a GEORGIA Magazine picnic blanket and E.L. Schadle of Peachtree City won a GEORGIA Magazine weather radio, just for stopping by our tent for our prize drawing.
Look for recipes from EGGtoberfest's tailgating chefs in our September 2008 issue. [For more on EGGtoberfest, see next month's Currents department.] |
